This is a project we completed a while back and I wanted to share it with you.
The beutiful kitchen above sports a beautiful Calcatta Marble for its countertops. Calcatta marble is know to be a product of Carrara Italy and is most often confused or mistaken as a White Carrara marble. The difference is that Calcatta is a much more white field with thick and sharp veinings.
Calcatta is considered a very sophisticated stone one that was mostly preferred by Michaelangelo to carve his famous work. It is a most desired stone by architect and designers to use in building entry ways and also found in residential floors and bathrooms.
With all its beauty and elegance, Calcatta marble is also just as soft and prone to damage as all the other marble types. The project we are discussing is one where a larger kitchen in Brookline, Massachusetts was having an issue with the marble being dulled and scratched and in many areas damaged with etch marks.

The images above depict the common types of marble kitchen countertop damage. It can be a real challenge keeping your kitchen marble countertop in pristine condition. Where the kitchen is the focal point of the home, where stories, good news, and important family matters are discussed. It is where great delicious meals are prepared and most often consumed.
With the need for food preparation and entertaining, you have the need to use an array of food preparation liquids and foods that can be and are very harmful to the marble.
Acidic products such as vinegar, pop soda, wine, and lemon juice and not to forget the fruits and vegetables such as lemon, grapes, grapefruits, pineapple are also acidic. These types of products will cause the surface of the marble to etch.
Marble is also very soft and it is prone to scratch very easily. A great and beautiful kitchen with Calcatta marble countertops needs to be adorned with beautiful and heavy centerpieces. It also needs to be functional in having room for small kitchen appliances. When these heavy items are moved or dragged on the surface of the marble, they can leave heavy to small scratches.
When a marble countertop has become damaged with scratches and or etching, it is time to seek help from an experienced and professional natural stone restoration company.
